State of Kuwait’s efforts in the field of human rights

Since its independence and the adoption of its constitution in 1962, the State of Kuwait has been keen on promoting and protecting human rights by including in the constitution many articles and texts that are consistent with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of the United Nations and relevant international charters and conventions. The State of Kuwait has worked continuously to adopt many legislations, laws and measures that reflect the extent of its respect for international human rights obligations, as well as its establishment of national mechanisms that contribute to the implementation of these legislations and laws.
The State of Kuwait also paid great attention to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations in September 2015, which are explicitly based on the United Nations Charter, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and human rights treaties and charters. Through the incorporation of these goals into the State of Kuwait's development plans, especially those related to supporting women, children and seniors, in addition to supporting education and health care. The State of Kuwait has imprinted a humanitarian footprint on the local, regional and international fields. Which gained the State of Kuwait the respect of the United Nations bodies, of which the United Nations named His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah as a Leader of Humanitarian Work and chose the State of Kuwait as a center for humanitarian work.
The State of Kuwait was a member of the Human Rights Council for the period from 2011-2014, which confirms its desire to contribute to strengthening and supporting the role of the Human Rights Council based on the belief in the role of this Council in ensuring and entrusting human rights. In addition to contributing with the participation of the international community to achieving international peace and security. Along with the keenness of the State of Kuwait to continue the efforts of the international community in the field of human rights on the basis of objectivity, credibility, indivisibility and selectivity of these rights, avoiding discrimination and politicization when dealing with human rights issue, but rather with emphasis on the respect for the rule of law.
The State of Kuwait has entered into a number of international conventions and treaties related to human rights, namely:
•    The International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.
•    The Convention on the Rights Children.
•    The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.
•    The Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.
•    The International convention on Civil and Political Rights.
•    The International convention on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
•    The convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The State of Kuwait’s devotion to respecting its obligations towards these international conventions and its full belief in the values and rules that these conventions carry that contribute and assist in devoting human rights to the State parties joined in these agreements. The permanent national committee on international human right law has been established to prepare reports and follow up on relevant recommendations for human rights under the chairmanship of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and includes all Governmental agencies. As it undertakes the task of preparing all reports related to human rights mechanisms and following up on the final observations and recommendations issued by them.
