30 Jun 2023

Today, Friday 30 June 2023, His Excellency Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait, spoke with His Excellency Tobias Billström, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Sweden, and expressed the State of Kuwait's total rejection and strong condemnation of the burning of the Holy Qur'an by Salwan Momika, which took place in front of the Stockholm Grand Mosque in the Swedish capital. His Excellency condemned the decision by the Swedish police to grant a permit to carry out this heinous act, as Muslims around the world celebrated Eid Al-Adha.  His Excellency Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah affirmed that such acts are completely unacceptable, contradict all moral and human principles and values, fuel hatred, and incite violence and terrorism. His Excellency held the Swedish government responsible for granting such permits, which contradict all international principles that call for coexistence, tolerance, and moderation.  Furthermore, His Excellency called upon the Swedish government to take immediate action to prevent these repeated abuses that target the holy sanctities of Muslims and to hold the perpetrators accountable.  His Excellency further stated that the principle of freedom should not be exploited as a justification to commit offensive and disrespectful acts towards Islam.
