The Ministerial Council of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf began its 155th session in the Saudi capital Riyadh today, Wednesday, to discuss ways to support and enhance the process of joint Gulf action in various fields, regional and international issues and joint coordination frameworks towards them. The delegation of the State of Kuwait participating in the meeting was headed by Foreign Minister Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al Busaidi, Chairman of the current session of the Ministerial Council, welcomed in a speech during the opening the joint tripartite statement issued by Saudi Arabia, Iran and China, which stipulated the resumption of Saudi-Iranian diplomatic relations, reopening their embassies and activating a number of cooperation agreements between them. Al Busaidi said that "this represents an important step in the context of our common goals in the GCC countries to strengthen the foundations of security, stability and good neighborliness," expressing the hope that this agreement will launch a new phase of cooperation based on mutual trust and respect and the stability of peoples and all countries enjoy prosperity. For his part, the Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, Jassim Al-Badawi, confirmed in his speech that during its journey of more than four decades, the Cooperation Council has achieved important steps and great and ambitious achievements in all areas of joint work thanks to God and then with the wisdom of the leaders of the GCC countries. He added, "Our Council has achieved an advanced level in the field of implementing the goals entrusted to it on the one hand, and has become one of the most successful, interdependent and harmonious regional organizations in the world on the other hand, especially as we look forward to pushing the blessed march of the Cooperation Council towards new horizons to achieve our common goals." He said that "the convening of the Council in its current session comes in light of regional, Arab and international developments that today more than ever require strengthening joint Gulf action and full readiness to deal with the great challenges in the region and the whole world at all levels at a time when the international community in all its forms have become countries, regional groupings or international organizations that are actively seeking to strengthen their relations with our Council and are working to strengthen and activate their association with the Council because of the high international status and high-level credibility of our Council." He added that the agenda of the meeting includes many important topics that reflect the status of the Council "which we look forward to reaching constructive decisions and recommendations that represent a great addition to the process of joint Gulf action on the one hand and work to strengthen the Council's multiple relations with the regional and international communities on the other." He praised the great support of the Ministerial Council to carry out the tasks and work of the General Secretariat, stressing that "I and all employees of the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council stand at the same distance from continuing the hard and hard work to complete the blessed march of the Gulf Cooperation Council in order to achieve more achievements within the framework of the process of joint work.
